The Teapot Pottery at Stonham Barns reports that teapots are selling … like hot cakes!
The Teapot Pottery at Stonham Barns has confirmed that teapot sales are enjoying a consumer ‘boom’ as people are spending more time working from home, drinking more tea, and starting collections to style their home interior makeovers.
Carters of Suffolk, handmade British ceramic teapot makers for 40 years, are experiencing higher levels of demand from individuals in the UK, and worldwide, since the Spring when lockdown changed the way people live life and shop. Explains owner Mark Gillam, ‘Life has changed for everyone this year, and we can confirm that people are paying more attention to some of the more simple pleasures of life like enjoying afternoon tea; and using beautiful ceramics to embellish their homes particularly in the run up to autumn/winter when everyone spends more time indoors.’
‘Our novel and creatively designed teapots have been much in demand online and people have spent time with us at the pottery enjoying ‘paint your own’ particularly over the summer months. There has been a strong uplift in sales online but we do still have lots of visitors to the pottery. We hope that the build-up to Christmas may see this trend continue.’
The Carters of Suffolk Teapot Pottery is the world’s best-known UK manufacturer specialising in making novel and creatively designed teapots for over 40 years. The manufacturing processes, highly dependent on skilled labour, have changed little since the 18th century.
Each teapot takes about a week to produce. The teapots are made in small quantities to make them highly collectable. The gold details are produced using real gold and the silver colouring is ‘platinum’. The pottery’s most popular teapot designs include, Classic Book Collections, the Aga Range, the Baking Range, Figurines, the Animal range and the Classic Car and Locomotive Collections.
Denise Van Outen is one of a number of celebrities who has a teapot collection, that she has been adding to for over 30 years!
Added, Alan Forward from Stonham Barns Park: ‘The national news stories of antique teapots selling at auction for around £500,000 have made people look at teapots in a new light. They are ornate objects to enhance any home, and one day they might be worth more than you think!’
‘We have certainly seen a huge amount of interest over the summer months at the pottery at Carters of Suffolk, and our retail outlet attracted many visitors as the outstanding weather brought many visitors to the area.’
Carters of Suffolk supplies department stores, museums, gift shops and tearooms around the UK and Europe, and online retailers including Wayfair and Etsy.
Recent worldwide orders have come in from the Walt Disney World Resort’s Epcot Theme Park in Orlando, Florida. The theme park has a range of the classic British made decorative teapots in its prestige gift shops.
