Recycle and reuse items find new homes and new life
A developing secondhand business – which was launched for the resale of electrical equipment and tools – has opened at Stonham Barns Park retail village to bring affordable products to tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts looking for nearly new items – and other collectable objects of interest!
The ‘Real Deal’ outlet at the Retail Village is selling items for those looking to do self builds and renovations from the region. It covers electrical, carpentry and plumbing and heating tools and equipment sourced by retired electrical contractor George Georgiou from Hertfordshire. George who lives at Ware – also has a holiday home at Stonham Barns Park at Stonham Aspal in Suffolk – and it is here that he decided to set up a retail outlet selling a myriad of items that would appeal to those looking to complete building projects on a budget.
Explains George, ‘I enjoyed over 50 years in the construction trade specialising in electrical installation and I have acquired a huge collection of trade tools and equipment which I am keen to see recycled and reused by people who need help with projects. As everyone knows who has undertaken a building project, costs can escalate, and I get a lot of people asking for equipment that will help them to finish routine jobs at a lower cost.’
‘Items can range from electrical test meters to bench drills and specialist plumbing kit – including a pipe freezing kit! It’s an eclectic mix of construction and trade goods.’
George came to the UK when he was seven with his Greek Cypriot parents who immigrated to the UK in 1955. He worked in London in the early years on electrical installation jobs for the printing trade and then moved into more general building projects covering hotels and leisure and a number of major house restorations – he also renovated an 8-bedroomed property in Thorndon, Suffolk which he and his wife lived in for over 10 years!
As well as trades items, George has added some interior products to his retail offering selling some art, telescopes, music equipment including a violin, a leather map bag containing original printed road maps – and even a Harley Davidson motorcycle!
George concludes: ‘It’s all grown organically. I have made a huge number of contacts over the years and in recent times many of those have come to me for advice to find items they have needed. I look forward to seeing where the business goes over the months ahead.’
The outlet appealed to George for its out-of-town location, café and tearooms and free parking benefits. He’s also happy to be near to the coast – he loves nothing more than to take his dog for a relaxing walk around Minsmere!
And when he gets the chance, he plans to head off to Europe – in a camper van he has recently acquired – for a mini-road trip!
