American Car Show 2020 is Show of Strength and Muscle Power
The American Car Show 2020, in association with the Knuckle Busters Car Club, was heralded the ‘perfect day’ by organisers of the show at Suffolk’s Stonham Barns Park (27 September). It was a show strongly supported by the classic car community exhibiting a dazzling array of cars, trucks and hot rods. It follows on from the Knuckle Busters car event staged over the Summer Bank Holiday weekend.
Around 500 people attended the early Autumn event which was held with all Covid-19 restrictions in place including temperature testing all entrants using infra-red thermometers, NHS Track & Trace QR code registration, and social distancing marshalling.
Cars on show at the event spanned the last six decades, and included Chevys, Mustangs, Buicks, Corvettes and Fords to name a few.
Each of the exhibits arrived for a stunning static display before being expertly driven around the showground in the ‘Show & Shine’ parade. MC for the day was professional commentator John Price who introduced the exhibits to the visitors.
Among the many attractions on the day were The Rat Pack Band, Rockabilly DJ, Walkabout Characters, trade and club stands and an Autojumble. A magnificent Bald Eagle made a star appearance from the Owl Sanctuary during the afternoon and provided a fantastic photo opportunity. Camping on site was also available, as well as food and drink concessions.
Speaking about the event, David Sandpearl at Stonham Barns Park says, ‘It was the perfect day for American classic and muscle car enthusiasts from around the county. The weather was not the best this year but the exhibits were stunning and the crowds were fully engaged and that made everything so worthwhile.’
‘The show of strength at the show endorses the fact that the classic car market has boomed during lockdown, both here and in the US. With the fact that events were put on hold, the need for owners to attend some safe, socially-distanced ‘meet and greets’ during the summer was evident. The hours of work put into the vehicles was obvious to see! You can’t suppress the enthusiasm of these people – they are devoted to restoring and showing their prized vehicles and getting the exhibits together always makes for such a powerful show.’
According to American classic car experts sales of vehicles have increased markedly as people with disposable income and more ‘time on their hands’ have been buying additional classics and spending money on refurbishing their collections to exacting standards.
Offering facilities to suit all ages, Stonham Barns Park has an indoor soft play area, pirate themed adventure golf, a shopping village, owl sanctuary, Meerkat castle, golf park, fishing lakes, children’s play area and fair rides. It also produces a huge variety of family shows and events.
Stonham Barns Park has been awarded the VisitEngland ‘We’re Good to Go’ industry charter mark. This verifies that the whole site meets the Government and public health guidance on Covid-19 and that site has all the required health and safety processes in place including the NHS Track and Trace scheme.
