The all-new Stonham Discount Home & Garden and Centre expands one year on as the demand for garden and home products stays high.
A developing business – owned by Luke and Sophie Hughes of Ipswich – has expanded at Stonham Barns Park retail village to bring more specimen plants and flowering shrubs to Mid-Suffolk to create ‘Mediterranean’ gardens – at low prices – and it has added a brand-new range of home products to the offering.
David Nevard, also from Ipswich, is managing the garden business that has grown steadily over the past six years from sales at weekly markets throughout Suffolk. David – who has worked in the garden centre sector for the past 11 years – is overseeing sales at the recently re-named Stonham Discount Home & Garden Centre that provides high quality outdoor trees, shrubs and plants including Olive trees, Palm trees, Cordyline trees, Bird of Paradise and Bougainvillea plants, topiary and much more.
Explains Luke Hughes, ‘We are very much a family run business which is what makes it all work so well. As market traders we are used to working exceptionally hard and we have built up the new garden centre within the last 12-month period going from strength to strength and this has included us expanding our product range.’
‘What makes us really special is that we offer outstandingly healthy plants and trees at market style prices – and in the cost-of-living crisis that we are in – it has kept our prices affordable. It’s the value that comes from us bringing market prices to a garden centre that makes the business model work. Our prices are not just low they are unbeatable! Not only do we have a large variety of plants and trees, we also offer garden décor, garden furniture, homewares, gifts jewellery and more.’
‘Our aim is to always have something exciting and new for our new customers and always make it an irresistible bargain!’
‘It’s so important in the current climate to support small businesses and local makers and so, in addition, we have in-store local guest sellers with their handmade products.’
‘Our customers love our weekly discount deals and we often have comments on how colourful and beautiful the stock is looking particularly now we are reaching the peak of the season.’
‘Moving forward we have our sights set on getting the work out there to people so they know about our hidden gem tucked in the corner of Stonham Barns Park retail village. And to continue to invigorate our family business by keeping these awesome deals on offer for our customers. We look forward helping our customers to transform their gardens – and to a great summer!’
The Garden Centre at Stonham Barns Park changed hands in 2023 following the previous owner’s retirement from the operation although the Tuscan Terracotta Pot business – specialising in large pots – and other product lines remain at the Stonham Barns Park location.
